121 Financial VS. Banks
121 Financial does have some things in common with banks. We both offer savings and checking accounts, loans, and a variety of financial services.
We both federally insure your deposits up to $250,000 (via the FDIC for banks, the NCUA for us).
And we both let you deposit or withdraw money in ways convenient to you, from mobile banking and ATMs/ITMs to stopping by a branch.
But that’s where the similarities end.
Unlike banks, 121 Financial is 100% invested in this community.
By upholding strong ethical values and a dedication to our members, 121 Financial is the safer, smarter choice for saving and growing your hard-earned money.
-
100% Owned By You, Our Members
Our institution is wholly owned by our members and your deposit accounts represent your “share” of the credit union. Banks, on the other hand, are owned by distant Wall Street investors with no local roots, so your money works for their benefit, not yours.
-
We're Not-for-Profit
As a member, any surplus in money after business expenses is returned to you in the form of higher deposit yields, much lower loan rates, and a host of other benefits. Banks charge higher fees and interest rates so they can make money off of you for their stockholders.
-
You Have a Say about Your Money
121 Financial is a cooperative organization that operates on a set of democratic principles and is focused on extending access to financial services to all people. Our Board of Directors is comprised of volunteers who answer not to stockholders like at a bank but to you, the credit union members who elect them.

You're Not a Number to Us
We believe that a person’s value and worth cannot be measured simply in a credit score or bank account balance. We work with everyone where they are and strive to treat all people with the dignity, respect and care they deserve, no matter their financial means or background.
